- An air quality advisory has been issued for the Edmonton area due to smoke from wildfires in B.C. and the northwestern United States. The city closed its outdoor pools and green shacks as a result, and has moved outdoor day camps and recreational programming indoors.
- The city has completed the concept plan for the Yellowhead Trail Freeway Conversion Program, which will allow vehicles to flow freely on the Yellowhead with the removal of traffic signals, intersections and crossings. Construction is expected to begin in 2023.
- Edmontonians will vote on senators, equalization, and daylight saving time on their municipal ballots this fall. The topic of replacing the RCMP with an Alberta Police Service needs to be evaluated further says the province. Meanwhile, the National Police Federation is calling for the province to "lay this unpopular and costly idea to rest."
- Now that the province has fully reopened, Edmonton is attracting a number of major events, including the Rugby Sevens Series world tour this September and L'Etape — a Tour de France sponsored cycling event — in August 2022.
- The city honoured three members of the Corporate Climate Leaders Program at its first annual Corporate Climate Leaders Summit. Members of the CCLP have collectively committed to reducing 183,962 tonnes of GHGs in Edmonton by 2035.
- The University of Alberta is outsourcing the last of its cleaning staff as a cost-saving measure. The provincial government significantly cut the university's budget two years in a row.
