- Three men died suddenly at a park in downtown Edmonton on Friday. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but harm reduction advocates believe it was a tainted drug supply, and that the deaths could have been avoided had the supervised consumption site at Boyle Street still been open.
- The Oilers' playoff run came to a disappointing end on Monday night after losing to the Jets in triple overtime. The Jets swept the series, eliminating the Oilers in just four games.
- The Boyle McCauley Health Centre and Bissell Centre have launched a mobile vaccination clinic to help reach the city's most vulnerable populations.
- Mayor Don Iveson isn't backing any candidates as his replacement. "We need anti-polarizing leadership right now more than ever," says Iveson, who's otherwise staying mum on the race.
- The Pandemic Planting Project, which donates fresh produce to the Edmonton Food Bank, is returning for a second year. In 2020, David Benjestorf, vice chair of the food bank, turned his 11-acre Sturgeon County property into a large garden. The project donated nearly 100 pounds of food last year.
- A new community-led initiative, called Street Labs, has received more than 80 applications to trial temporary traffic calming solutions in neighbourhoods across the city.
- The province has ordered universities to pause any new partnerships with links to the Chinese government and review existing relationships. Canadian and U.S. intelligence agencies had previously warned universities about the dangers of intellectual property theft by Chinese institutions.
- The Alberta legislature will resume on Tuesday after a three-week pause due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. MLAs will consider temporary changes to allow for virtual voting this week, reports the CBC.
