- The Edmonton International Airport is receiving $25 million from the federal government to help it recover from the pandemic. EIA was hit hard by COVID, with domestic travel down and no international flights coming into the airport.
- The Glendale Golf & Country Club apologized for reposting a picture of four women wearing shirts that read "Drunk Wives Matter" on Instagram. The picture sparked backlash for mocking Black Lives Matter.
- A well-known LGBTQ advocate is calling for the removal of the three-month waiting period for men who have sex with men seeking to donate blood. Kristopher Wells, Canada Research Chair for the Public Understanding of Sexual and Gender Minority Youth at MacEwan University, says the change should be a priority given the current blood shortage in Canada.
- The Edmonton Oilers traded fan favourite Ethan Bear to Carolina for top-nine forward Warren Foegele. Bear said he was excited for the new opportunity.
- The city is permanently naturalizing 150 acres of stormwater land this year to restore habitats for native species. More than 200 stormwater sites exist across the city to mitigate flood risk.
- Edmonton AM takes listeners inside a self-defence class organized by Al-Rashid mosque for Muslim women. There have been several attacks against Muslim women of colour in the past year.
- The province is removing mandatory isolation for those who test positive for COVID-19, starting Aug. 16. Mayor Don Iveson said he was surprised by the news, given that cases continue to rise across the province.
- The federal government signed a three-year renewal with the Native Counselling Services of Alberta for the Stan Daniels Healing Centre and Buffalo Sage Wellness House. The healing lodges incorporate Indigenous values, traditions and beliefs into the correctional system.
