Is it OK to gather in small groups outside if we keep our distance?

Outdoor gatherings and indoor seated/audience events in the province are restricted to 100 people, in spaces where people can maintain at least two metres between one another. 

There is more flexibility for "cohort groups - small groups of people whose members do not always keep 2 metres apart," according to the province. This includes a performers group of up to 50 people, sports teams in region-only cohorts of up to 50 players and multiple households up to a maximum of 15 people. 

"We've been hearing lots of feedback from Albertans and we've been having conversations about how we can make sure that we're balancing the need to protect Albertans from the spread of the virus, along with the need to make sure Albertans have the supports that they need for health in all aspects of their lives," Hinshaw said at a news conference.

Activities like singing, shaking hands, and sharing food and utensils are still considered high-risk and should be avoided.

To reduce the risk where possible, the province advises to "cancel, postpone, reschedule or explore virtual attendance, especially for people at greater risk, such as people age 60 years or older, and those with chronic medical conditions."

Indoor social gatherings, like wedding receptions and birthday parties, are capped at 50 people, even with the guidelines to maintain physical distancing.
