What resources are in place to help families who are staying home?

There is support available for those who need help with food, finances, mental health and more.

While the province has started to slowly reopen, some people may choose to continue to stay home, for health reasons or otherwise. There are resources available to help with food, finances, mental health and more.

Most grocery stores are offering contact-free delivery and pickup options, as are local restaurants. Some local businesses have teamed up to offer products from multiple vendors, like Good Goods Co. or Steve and Dan's Fresh BC Fruit, with various delivery options.

Financial support from the federal government is still in place for those who qualify, including CERB, which provides $500 a week for up to 16 weeks to workers who meet the program criteria. Find more details on those options here

The Edmonton Social Planning Council has compiled a list of supports as well, ranging from rent relief and utility payment deferral, to food security resources. YEG Community Response is another excellent document to consult if you're looking for help, and they also offer a list of mental health supports and contacts.

Free Footie, which usually provides a free soccer program to kids in need, has pivoted to provide a food program for vulnerable families and an online training program to help keep kids active. The Edmonton Public Library is also providing online programming.

Alberta has "a confidential mental health support line at 1-877-303-2642 and addiction help line at 1-866-332-2322, available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week," writes CBC
