- As of Tuesday, April 20, Albertans over the age of 40 are eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine. Bukola Akande, a pharmacist at the Hamptons Pharmacy, told CBC News that they received 200 bookings in 24 hours after the announcement was made.
- City council has given final approval to a property tax freeze for 2021. No deferral of late fees will be offered this year, reports the Edmonton Journal.
- The federal budget introduced on April 19 included $1.5 billion for the Rapid Housing Initiative in 2021-22. Mayor Don Iveson welcomed the news on Twitter but added "to meet our shared goal of ending chronic homelessness more will need to be done."
- The federal budget also included plans to waive interest rates on federal loans, and other initiatives for post-secondary students. Rowan Ley, University of Alberta Students’ Union vice president (external), told CTV that "the budget will help struggling students who are trying to get their first job post-graduation."
- Mayor Don Iveson was honoured with a Clean50 award for his work to lead green initiatives in the city, including developing the Energy Transition Strategy.
