Calls for public engagement: Trees, zoning, and neighbourhood improvement
By Karen Unland and Kevin Holowack
Here are some opportunities to offer your input to the City of Edmonton on various civic issues, such as renewal projects, service provision, and bylaws.
- Dunluce Neighbourhood and Alley Renewal: The city's Neighbourhood Renewal Program and Alley Renewal Program are looking to take a long-term strategic approach to improving and rehabilitating neighbourhood infrastructure and public spaces. Community feedback is sought on draft designs in the Dunluce neighbourhood in north Edmonton. Deadline: May 28
- Naturalization and Tree Planting: Phase 2: The city is aiming to plant two million new trees as part of the Greener As We Grow initiative, a pillar of The City Plan. A report on Phase 1 of the engagement was released in December. Phase 2 invites Edmontonians to share how they use open spaces and where they see opportunities for tree planting and naturalization. Deadline: May 29
- Ritchie Street Lab: Vision Zero Street Labs are a chance to try out safety and traffic-calming measures on Edmonton's streets. The city is seeking resident feedback in the south-central neighbourhood of Ritchie to determine if a Street Lab is appropriate. A list of Edmonton communities already participating in the program is available on the city's Safe Streets Map. Deadline: May 29
- Zoning Bylaw Renewal Initiative: The city is doing an overhaul of its Zoning Bylaw for the first time in more than 60 years. A report on what the city heard in its previous engagement was published in December 2022, and the final phase is happening this month. Edmontonians are invited to share feedback on a refined draft of the updated zoning bylaw and review the "Know Your Zone" Rezoning Map. Deadline: May 31
