Online food reviews translated to live theatre
This week, we're highlighting an event pick by Taproot reporter, Colin Gallant. Colin recommends Butter Chicken Odyssey by Ramneek Singh, part of Springboards, a festival that celebrates the electrifying Canadian theatre of tomorrow put on by Workshop West Playwrights' Theatre.
Butter Chicken Odyssey by Ramneek Singh
📅 Friday, March 27 7:30 PM
📍 Workshop West Playwrights' Theatre
What started as a "dumb food project" from Edmonton-born Punjabi food writer, Ramneek Singh, exploded into a two-year, fifty-restaurant expedition across the city in search of the best butter chicken, attracting media attention and a cult following in its wake. From epic restaurant disasters, to finding the beating heart of the dish, this one-man show is fun, flavourful, and will leave you hungry for more! Dramaturged by Collin Doyle.
Here's what Colin had to say:
"I'm keen to see Ramneek Singh's theatrical adaption of the Butter Chicken Odyssey online review series as a staged reading. Singh blends reviews with broader commentary, including how one's connection to their culture evolves over time, so I'm confident he can make the jump from screen to stage. Plus, he's hysterically funny."
