This week, we're highlighting an event pick by Taproot co-founder, Karen Unland. Karen recommends a Freedom to Read Week screening of the documentary The Librarians followed by a panel discussion on modern censorship.
The Librarians
š
Friday, Feb. 27 6:30 PM
š Garneau Theatre
A Freedom to Read Week screening of Kim A. Snyder's 2025 documentary following a group of librarians in the US uniting to combat book banning amid unprecedented censorship, followed by a panel discussion moderated by CBC's Tara McCarthy.
Here's what Karen had to say:
"Intellectual freedom is important to me as a journalist, as a media entrepreneur, as a citizen, as a mom. So I'm looking forward to marking Freedom to Read Week by gathering with fellow library-lovers at this special screening, followed by a discussion with EPL's Vicky Varga, Murray Utas of Fringe Theatre, Arianne Smith-Piquette of CKUA, and writer Peter Midgley."
