Everything's coming up Rosies for Edmonton filmmakers

By

All kinds of Edmonton film talent are nominated for Rosie Awards, to be bestowed by the Alberta Media Production Industries Association at a province-wide celebration of excellence on Nov. 7 in Calgary. Crip Trip from Catapult Pictures is up for an impressive 15 nominations, including best unscripted series and best production representing cultural diversity. The show follows the road-trip adventures of best friends Frederick Kroetsch and Daniel Ennett, the latter of whom is a four-limb amputee. The show has run for two seasons. Work by Sticks & Stones is nominated in 12 categories, many of them for The Secret Longtree Society, a documentary about a community convened by Dustin Bajer to imagine a world where we plant trees that last 1,000 years (which was also adapted into an Art Gallery of Alberta exhibition).

Sticks & Stones team member Colin Waugh is nominated in two categories for his work on St.Arnaud's music video for Midwest Superstardom. The music video race is dominated by Edmonton talent: Nuela Charles's Life from Calgary-based Brock Davis Mitchell Productions; Lyra Brown's Shades of Blue from Moving Artistry Productions; Kaeley Jade's The Ceiling from Shoulda' Danished Productions; and A New Type of Gray for Calling All Captains from Crimson Curse Films.

So many Edmonton artists and companies are nominated that we cannot name them all, but here are a few more in rapid succession: Score G Productions with a total of 10 nominations for Bif Naked and Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story; Northern Gateway Films with seven for My Final Victim and one for The Speech; and Omar Mouallem with two, one for Nader's Girl and the other for the Settle Down podcast.
